Terms & Conditions
Last updated: October 2026
These terms apply to driving tuition supplied by Paul Salmons School of Motoring. They do not affect your statutory rights.
1. Driving licence and legal requirements
Pupils must hold a valid licence appropriate for the tuition and must tell Paul about any restrictions, endorsements or changes that may affect driving legally.
2. Eyesight
Pupils must meet the legal eyesight standard for driving and use any required glasses or contact lenses.
3. Fitness to drive
Pupils must be fit to drive and must not attend a lesson impaired by alcohol, drugs, medication, illness, fatigue or any condition that makes driving unsafe.
4. Lesson prices
Current prices are shown on the Prices page or confirmed when booking. Prices may change for future lessons, with reasonable notice where appropriate.
5. Payment
Payment arrangements will be agreed when lessons are booked. Any outstanding sums may need to be paid before further lessons continue.
6. Standard lesson cancellations
At least 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange a standard lesson. Where less than 48 hours’ notice is given, the lesson may be charged at the full lesson price. Any outstanding cancellation fee must be paid before further lessons continue.
7. Intensive / crash course cancellations
At least 7 days’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange an intensive or crash course. Any charge for late cancellation will reflect reasonable loss, saved costs and the ability to rebook the time rather than operate as an arbitrary penalty.
8. Cancellation by the instructor
If Paul needs to cancel or rearrange a lesson, reasonable efforts will be made to provide notice and arrange an alternative. No charge will be made for a lesson cancelled by the instructor.
9. Block bookings and refunds
Unused prepaid hours will be refunded fairly where a refund is due. Lessons already taken may be recalculated at the standard lesson rate where fair and appropriate. A £20 refund administration charge may apply only where applicable and reasonable, reflecting genuine administration. Statutory rights are preserved.
10. Online, telephone and distance bookings
Where consumer cancellation rights apply to a booking made at a distance, those statutory rights will be respected. If you ask for lessons to begin during a statutory cancellation period, the amount payable for services already supplied may be affected by consumer law.
11. Transfers
Prepaid lesson credit is personal to the pupil unless Paul agrees otherwise.
12. Pupil responsibilities
Pupils are expected to attend on time, follow reasonable safety instructions, practise safe driving and provide accurate information relevant to tuition.
13. Instructor responsibilities
Paul will provide professional tuition, maintain appropriate instructor status and use a suitable insured tuition vehicle where the school car is used.
14. Safety during lessons
A lesson may be stopped or altered if continuing would be unsafe. Serious or repeated unsafe behaviour may result in tuition being ended.
15. Use of the tuition vehicle
The tuition vehicle remains under the instructor’s control for safety, legal and insurance purposes. Use for a practical test is not automatically guaranteed.
16. Accidents and insurance contribution
If a pupil is legally responsible for loss arising from negligent, reckless or deliberate actions, they may be required to contribute up to £300 toward genuine relevant accident or insurance costs, subject to the circumstances, insurance arrangements and consumer law. This is a contribution toward genuine costs, not a penalty. If the actual relevant loss is less than £300, no more than the actual amount will be charged. The occurrence of an accident alone does not establish pupil responsibility.
17. Tyre damage
A pupil may be required to contribute up to £150 per incident where tyre damage is the direct result of negligent, reckless or deliberate driving and the pupil is legally responsible. No more than the reasonable actual attributable cost will be charged. Normal wear, pre-existing damage, unavoidable road hazards or damage for which the pupil is not responsible will not be charged to the pupil.
18. Driving tests
The pupil is responsible for booking and managing their practical test with DVSA. Discuss the proposed date, time and test centre with Paul before booking if you intend to use the tuition vehicle. Use of the vehicle may be withheld on reasonable safety, legal, availability or insurance grounds.
19. Driving test vehicle charges
Any charge for use of the tuition vehicle and associated lesson time on test day will be confirmed before the test booking is accepted by Paul.
20. Fines, penalties and offences
Pupils remain responsible for offences, penalties or consequences legally attributable to their driving.
21. Mobile phones and distractions
Mobile phones and other devices must not be used in a way that is illegal or unsafe during a lesson.
22. Lesson times and collection
Lesson duration includes the agreed tuition period and any normal briefing/debriefing. Collection and drop-off arrangements should be agreed in advance.
23. Behaviour and respect
Abusive, threatening, discriminatory or seriously inappropriate behaviour will not be accepted and may result in tuition being ended.
24. Complaints
Please raise concerns promptly with Paul so there is an opportunity to resolve them. Contact: 07843 985 438 or paulsalmons@hotmail.co.uk.
25. Privacy and personal information
Personal information is handled in accordance with the website Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law.
26. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Changes will apply prospectively and will not remove statutory rights.
27. Statutory rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted under UK consumer law.
Important: these are business terms, not legal advice. Financial-liability and cancellation clauses should be professionally reviewed before launch if you want legal assurance.
